How to set up dynamic content profiles

This article shows you how to set up dynamic content profiles, so you can export the same email to ESPs that use different code.

Each ESP has its own code for personalized and conditional content. For example, a first name is {{first_name}} in Klaviyo but *|FNAME|* in Mailchimp. A dynamic content profile groups together the code for one ESP. You give each personalization tag and conditional the code it needs for each profile, then choose the profile when you export. Nobody building an email has to write ESP code, whichever ESP it’s going to.

If you only export to one ESP, you don’t need a profile. Personalization tags and conditionals use their default code when no profile is chosen.

  1. In the sidebar, click Dynamic Content, then select the Dynamic Content Profiles tab.
  2. Click Add Dynamic Content Profile.
  3. In Name, enter a name for the profile, e.g. “Mailchimp”.
  4. Click Create profile.

Once the profile exists, add its code to each personalization tag and conditional that needs different code from the default:

Anything you don’t add code for uses its default code.

When you export, choose the profile for the ESP you’re exporting to:

  • Exporting through a connector: set the connector’s Dynamic Content Profile so every export through it uses that profile. For the steps, see the article for your ESP: Airship, Braze, Iterable or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Exporting the HTML: choose the profile in Dynamic Content Profile. Select None (Use default values) to use the default code.
